The Best Escape Rooms in Barcelona

Barcelona has dozens of escape rooms and picking the best one for your group isn’t always easy. This guide helps you decide: how an escape room works, what types there are (horror, mystery, adventure), how much it costs and which rooms stand out in the city, with our two experiences — Awaken and Achijira — explained in detail.

How to choose an escape room in Barcelona

An escape room is an immersive game: your group enters a themed room, solves a chain of puzzles and has a time limit to complete a mission. In Barcelona you’ll find rooms for 2 to 8 people, lasting 60 to 100 minutes, with prices that usually range from €15 to €40 per person depending on the room and group size.

Horror, mystery or adventure

The first decision is theme and intensity:

• Horror. Real scares, darkness, tension and, in the best rooms, live actors. Ideal if the group wants to have a (good kind of) bad time and walk out with stories.
• Mystery / tension. An unsettling atmosphere and investigation, but without constant jump scares. A good option for mixed groups.
• Adventure. No scares: puzzles, exploration and teamwork. The mode most enjoyed by families, teens and anyone who doesn’t want to be scared.

Some rooms — ours among them — let you choose the mode for the same room, so the same space can be played as horror or as adventure.

Difficulty, players and price

• Difficulty. A good escape room adapts the help to the group: the point is to progress and solve, not get stuck. Ask whether the game master follows the game.
• Number of players. 2 to 7 is standard. Fewer than 4 is more demanding; more than 7 usually means playing two rooms in parallel.
• Price. The per-person price drops the bigger the group. Be wary of prices that are too low: set design, actors and maintenance cost money.

A strange event has closed the village chapel. The Vatican sends its expert Emissaries to decide whether to declare it unholy ground, while the streets whisper of demonic events. Full-on horror, with cinema-grade set design and well-placed scares.
