It doesn’t rain on many days in Barcelona, but when it does (especially in autumn) terrace and beach plans are suddenly off. If you’re wondering what to do in Barcelona when it rains, here are 8 indoor ideas for couples, friends or families.
8 indoor plans for a rainy day in Barcelona
- An escape room with live actors. Our favourite, of course (more on why below).
- Museums. Barcelona has museums for every taste: art, science, history or design. A rainy day is the perfect excuse for the one you keep putting off.
- Covered markets. Wander, snack and buy local produce without getting wet.
- Original-version cinema. There are screens in several neighbourhoods.
- Theatre or a musical. Barcelona’s listings are busy all year round.
- A spa or urban baths. The most relaxing plan for a grey afternoon.
- Workshops: cooking, ceramics, tastings… You learn something and leave with a souvenir.
- Indoor fun for groups: bowling, board-game cafés or some arcade time.
Why an escape room is the perfect rainy-day plan
- It’s indoors from start to finish: 90 or 100 minutes inside another story while it pours outside.
- It doesn’t depend on the weather: your booking is the same, rain or shine.
- It works for any group: 2 to 7 people per room, as a couple, with friends or family (from age 12 in Adventure and Mystery).
- You choose the fear level: from horror with actors to adventure with no scares.
At Red Dopamine we have two rooms in Barcelona:
- Awaken · The Cursed Chapel: horror escape room with live actors, 90 minutes.
- Achijira · The Forbidden Cave: adventure, tension or horror in a cave, 100 minutes. Best horror escape room in Catalonia at the Escape Room Awards.
Rainy autumn plans
Autumn is rainy season… and Halloween season. If you want a scary plan for these dates, see our Halloween in Barcelona plan. And if the day turns out dry, there are more ideas in what to do today in Barcelona.
Getting here without getting soaked
We’re at C/ Alcalá de Guadaira 20 (Sant Martí), 3 minutes’ walk from metro L2 (Bac de Roda and Sant Martí stops) and bus H10. Arrive about 10 minutes early for the briefing.
Tips for a rainy-day visit
- Book ahead: on rainy days lots of people have the same idea, and weekends fill up.
- Comfortable clothes: you’ll need to move around and crouch in the room.
- Umbrella outside, phone in the locker: during the game, only the story matters.
